Fort Hawkins was the first white settlement of Macon, Georgia. It was constructed in 1806 on the site of the Old Ocmulgee Fields. The fort was named for Benjamin Hawkins who selected the site and recommended its establishment as a trading post. The fort was in operation from 1807 to 1821.
